Harry Lee

Harry Lee is a PhD student in the Respiratory Evaluation Sciences Program at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is part of a nationwide team (funded by Genome Canada) that seeks to develop biomarkers and interventions that would ultimately prevent asthma in children. His research is a critical component of this project, in which he will develop a decision analytical framework for the assessment of the value-for-money potential of the interventions. His research consists a coherent set of four objectives: • Objective 1: To investigate the long-term trend of asthma-related hospitalizations in Canada; • Objective 2: To determine the heterogeneity in asthma exacerbations, and impact of asthma exacerbations on the course of the disease; • Objective 3: To develop and validate an asthma model for epidemiological projection and policymaking for early asthma interventions in Canada; • Objective 4: To perform cost-effectiveness and budget impact analysis of microbiome-based interventions for the prevention of asthma in Canada. His input will guide the team towards focusing on interventions with the potential to provide most benefits to Canadians, at acceptable costs. This in turn has the potential to result in more efficient policies that will improve the performance of our healthcare system, and the quality of life of many Canadians at risk of asthma and other airway diseases.
